- 2 cups all-purpose flour

For the Chocolate Frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Step 1 :
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch cake pans with butter or cooking spray.
Step 2:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Whisk to combine.
Step 3:
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Whisk to combine.
Step 4:
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Gradually stir in the hot water, mixing until the batter is smooth.
Step 5:
- Divide the cake batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting them.
For the Chocolate Frosting:
Step 1:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and unsweetened cocoa powder together until smooth.
Step 2:
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, alternating between the two, mixing until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 3:
- Once the cakes have cooled, place one cake on a serving platter.
- Spread a layer of chocolate frosting on top.
- Place the second cake on top of the frosting layer.
- Spread another layer of frosting on top of the second cake.
Step 4:
- Decorate the cake as desired with additional frosting, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries.
