Ingredients
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh chives for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Boil Potatoes
- Place the peeled and quartered potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water.
- Add a pinch of salt to the water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the potatoes for about 15-20 minutes or until they are fork-tender.
Step 2: Infuse Garlic
- In a small saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Remove the garlic butter from the heat and set it aside.
Step 3: Mash Potatoes
- Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot.
- Add the remaining softened butter and garlic butter to the potatoes.
- Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually pour in the heavy cream while mashing until you reach your desired consistency.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, and stir well to combine.
Step 4: Serve
- Transfer the creamy garlic mashed potatoes to a serving bowl.
- Garnish with chopped fresh chives if desired.
- Serve hot alongside your favorite main dishes.

- For extra creamy mashed potatoes, use a potato ricer or a food mill to mash the potatoes.
- To make ahead, prepare the mashed potatoes up to the end of Step 3. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave, adding a splash of cream if needed to restore creaminess.
- Adjust the amount of garlic according to your preference. You can also roast the garlic beforehand for a milder flavor.
