Description

Not only are these crispy fried calamari rings crispy on the outside and full of flavor on the inside, but they are also full of high-quality protein and Omega-3 fatty acids, making them a delicious and nutritious dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh calamari, cleaned and sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Marinara sauce or aioli, for dipping

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Calamari

  • Rinse the calamari under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Slice the calamari into 1/2-inch rings, discarding the tentacles if desired.

Step 2: Prepare the Coating

  • In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Dredge the calamari rings in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.

Step 3: Fry the Calamari

  • In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Working in batches, carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil.
  • Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried calamari to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Repeat the frying process with the remaining calamari rings.

Step 4: Serve

  • Arrange the fried calamari on a serving platter.
  • Serve hot with lemon wedges and your choice of marinara sauce or aioli for dipping.

Notes

  • To ensure crispy calamari, make sure the oil is hot enough before frying.
  • Work in batches to avoid overcrowding the skillet, which can lower the oil temperature and result in soggy calamari.
  • Serve the fried calamari immediately for the best texture and flavor.
