Description

Heart shaped pancakes are a cute and fun treat that adds a touch of love to any breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cooking spray or additional butter for greasing the pan

Instructions

Step 1:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Step 2:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 3:

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold them together until just combined.
  • Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.

Step 4:

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  • Lightly grease the skillet with cooking spray or butter.
  • Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet in the shape of a heart.
  • Use a spoon to shape the batter into a heart if necessary.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges start to look set.

Step 5:

  • Carefully flip the pancake using a spatula and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 6:

  • Repeat with the remaining batter, re-greasing the skillet as needed.

Notes

  • To make the heart shape, pour the batter onto the skillet in the shape of a V, then add a small semicircle at the bottom to form the point of the heart.
  • Serve the pancakes with your favorite toppings such as maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce for an extra romantic touch.
