Description

Italian-style Bruschetta is a classic appetizer usually made from slices of toasted bread with fresh tomatoes, fresh herbs, olive oil and garlic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 French baguette, sliced diagonally
  • 4 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Balsamic glaze (optional, for drizzling)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Step 1: Toast the Bread

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush each slice lightly with olive oil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and lightly golden brown.

Step 2: Prepare the Tomato Topping

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, and remaining olive oil.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine.

Step 3: Assemble the Bruschetta

  • Once the bread slices are toasted, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly.
  • Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread.

Step 4: Serve

  • Arrange the bruschetta slices on a serving platter.
  • Optional: Drizzle balsamic glaze over the bruschetta for extra flavor.
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top for added richness.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Mediterranean-inspired Italian bruschetta!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, rub the toasted bread with a halved garlic clove before topping with the tomato mixture.
  • Experiment with different variations by adding toppings like mozzarella cheese, olives, or roasted red peppers.
  • Serve bruschetta as an appetizer, snack, or alongside a fresh salad for a light meal.
