Description

Matcha cookies are baked treats made using matcha powder, a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Unlike regular green tea, matcha is prepared by whisking the powdered leaves into water, allowing for the consumption of the whole leaf and all its nutrients. This gives matcha cookies a rich, unique flavor profile and a beautiful green hue.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or chopped nuts

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of matcha powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.

Step 3: Prepare the Wet Ingredients

In a large bowl, cream 1/2 cup softened butter with 1/2 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1 large egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

Step 4: Combine and Fold

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If desired, fold in 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips or chopped nuts.

Step 5: Bake the Cookies

Drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden, then cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • For an even more intense matcha flavor, consider adding an extra teaspoon of matcha powder to the dough.
  • Make sure to sift the matcha powder before adding it to prevent any clumps from forming.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week for maximum freshness.
