Description

Spooky Witch Hat Cookies are a fun and delicious snack to make and share during the Halloween season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 chocolate kiss candies
  • Orange food coloring
  • Optional: Halloween-themed sprinkles or edible glitter

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Set aside.

Step 3:

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Add a few drops of orange food coloring to achieve a Halloween-inspired hue.

Step 4:

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms.

Step 5:

  • Shape the dough into 12 equal-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spaced a few inches apart.

Step 6:

  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set and just starting to turn golden brown.

Step 7:

  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately press a chocolate kiss candy into the center of each cookie, flat side down, to create the “witch hat” shape.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheet.

Notes

  • Make sure your butter is softened to room temperature for easy creaming with the sugar.
  • If you prefer a darker color for your witch hats, you can add a few drops of black food coloring to the dough.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
