Ingredients
For the Beef:
- 1 pound beef (flank steak, sirloin, or other tender cuts), thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (Chinese cooking wine) or dry sherry
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
For the Sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup oyster sauce
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional, for a touch of sweetness)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
For the Stir-Fry:
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 3–4 cups broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
Step 1:Marinate the Beef
- In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, cornstarch, and sesame oil.
- Mix well to coat the beef evenly. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
Step 2:Prepare the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, hoisin sauce (if using), sugar, cornstarch, and sesame oil until smooth. Set aside.
Step 3:Cook the Broccoli
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are bright green and crisp-tender.
- Add 1/4 cup water to the skillet, cover, and steam the broccoli for another 2 minutes.
- Remove the broccoli from the skillet and set aside.
Step 4:Cook the Beef
- Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the skillet. When the oil is hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes without stirring to let it sear and brown.
- Stir the beef and cook for another 1-2 minutes until it’s just cooked through.
- Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
Step 5:Stir-Fry Everything Together
- In the same skillet, add the garlic and ginger, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return the cooked beef and broccoli to the skillet, then pour in the sauce mixture.
- Stir-fry everything together for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli evenly.
Step 6:Serve
- Serve the stir-fried beef and broccoli over steamed rice.
- Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if desired.
